The disruption of the Web by the new cognitive paradigm

Summary of the paper
Presented in Barcelona at McLuhan Galaxy Conference
The paper focuses on the problematic of a new mental paradigm, which affect the construction of meaning, which alters the way people interpret information, and so, interferes on the field of digital media.
This means, how can we build a new web flow, from the current web structure, in the sense to bring to the user, contents capable to stimulate their conscious information as the unconscious one?

Through reading, the unconscious activity of the individual makes use of the implicit information to achieve meaning. Thus, what is explicit through words does not mean the same to everyone.
Consequently, for individuals with a predominance of thought based on the right hemisphere, when they interpret through reading a semantic concept, they do it with more participation of implicit information (of their unconscious), than individuals of the linear thought.
Hence, for individuals of the contextual thought, the construction of meaning strongly depends on the created context of relations between the explicit information (of the semantic concepts, in the case of reading) and the implicit information of the individual. This is to say, it strongly depends on the stimuli to the individual’s unconscious.

The current web structure, as the linear thought has the same base, it means, a linguistic base. Thus the current web it’s not prepared for the new mental paradigm, which base is non-linguistic. Therefore, a new flow structured by a new kind of hyperlink needs to be build.
In this sense, we can reinforce our argumentation about the fact that we are witnessing the embodiment of thought through the medium.
Through the medium we all are collectively sharing the broad amplitude of the construction of meaning, with its conscious and unconscious components.
Hence, our approach explores the main idea that on social networks, it’s possible to build the implicit information that complete the meaning construction of the target-user, and so, to trigger their unconscious cognition.

In order to retrieve information from a social network that can cognitively affect the target-user (in the scope of their browsing activities), we look at the ties that surround the user.
Thus, we take into account some models of social network theories: ‘The Strength of weak Ties’ approach (Granovetter 1973) and ‘The Small-World Problem’, approaching the work of Milgram (1967).
And we regard the users, of the social network, that are the ‘weak ties’ as ‘degrees of separation’ (Duncan Watts 1999, 2003)
So, we will use the weak ties in order to achieve other social rings, but keeping a path of trust between people.

So, with our proposal, we intend to find information that can be implicit for the target-user, being this information the one that was published by someone on their social network (explicit information for the one that published the content).
Within our framework, the first ring is a social one where closer circle of connections reside. Thus, we speculate that, in this first circle, reside the items of information that contextualize the explicit information of the target-user. This means, completing their conscious information about the topic that is accessing, through their browsing.
Therefore, we speculate that from more distant social rings there is implicit information for the target-user. This because the distance from a far ring and the ring of strong ties increases the probability of the target-user to be served with information that he does not know.
